Meet Myles and Medici 

Southbank News ran into them going for a walk near the Arts Centre. Medici is a friendly and playful pupper and he attracts a lot of attention wherever he goes.

He’s quick with a nuzzle and likes climbing up to the highest place he can find. 

Myles was stopped several times by passers-by complimenting Medici as we took his picture.

Medici is a nine-month-old Maremmano-Abruzzese Sheepdog Collie cross; Myles and his partner Amber found him online. Maremmas are Italian in descent and were bred to guard livestock.

The name Medici was inspired by the famous Italian political dynasty, Myles said, as a tip of the hat to his canine ancestry.

Medici loves eating carrots – “three a day, he just crunches away on them” – and long walks along the Yarra in the afternoon sun.

When asked the best thing about having a fur baby, Myles’ answer is immediate: “The cuddles.” •
