From Southbank to Canberra, it’s an honour to represent you

I’m Steph Hodgins-May, and I’ve recently been sworn in as your new federal Greens Senator.

I’m thrilled to be representing you and bringing forward the issues that are most important to the Southbank community.

I have lived in the inner south for more than 10 years now, raising my two young kids. My family and I love the diversity of the community and everything it has to offer, from the Arts Precinct to Southbank Promenade, and all of our local parks and markets.

Our community really is one of the best places in the world to live. As your representative, I will work together with you to keep it that way, to improve the liveability of our area, protect our essential community services and make housing affordable in our community.

As a Greens senator, I am fighting to tackle the big issues affecting us all.

It’s never been clearer that while you struggle to afford rent, groceries, dental care, childcare and keep your head above water in a cost-of-living crisis, the major parties continue to back big corporations and billionaires.

We need bold solutions to these systemic problems, which is why we’re proudly taking up the fight for a rent freeze, for free childcare, to drive down grocery prices, to get dental and mental healthcare into Medicare, and to end handouts to fossil fuel corporations and wealthy property investors.

I’ve taken up the role of Greens federal spokesperson for early childhood education and care. I’ll be focusing on fixing a system that has long been broken, where parents and carers are paying exorbitant fees and waitlists are too long. Childcare should be free and accessible for all (just like school is!) not just for those who can afford it.

The Greens are the only party standing up for free and universal early childhood education and care, and fighting for a better deal for educators who do the important work of caring for and educating our littlest ones.

Let’s work together – please contact me, I want to understand what matters to you and your family. Together we can build a better future for our children and our community.

You can find my contact details online. I look forward to hearing from you. •
